Hello, my name is Gus! I am an incredibly handsome, albeit shy, 15-20 lb., 6-month-old Shiba who is still learning how to be a dog so my dream is to find a Shiba savvy furever family who will help me learn everything I need to know to reach my full potential!
I am very nervous around people especially when they approach me, but I’ve come a long way since being with my foster family! It’s true…initially, I ignored them, kept my distance, and would watch them from the safety of my crate, only coming out at night when lights were off and everyone was sleeping. But now, although I’m not a fan of being pet or cuddled, I do allow being gently leashed, touched, or picked up and I have even ventured out of my crate to explore other parts of the house. Ya know what I’ve discovered? Sure, this world is terrifying but it’s also very interesting! So, I said, “Gus, you’re a strong and smart boy…it’s time to face your fears head on!” Now I take treats from foster mom’s hand…how amazing is that!!?!!
I’m good with cats and other dogs and will definitely need a confident companion in my new home. I also need a fenced yard because although my family has tried to take me on a few brief walking trips, I get scared outside and try to escape. As for doing my business…I’m still a puppy so it’s a work in progress but I use potty pads and will sometimes potty outside. As a matter of fact, on one of my out-of-crate adventures, I found the back door so now, I sit at it and whine to let my family know I need to go out. Clearly, I’m a smart boy and I’m confident that with lots of patience and understanding, I will conquer it all in no time.
Anyway, I am a curious but cautious and incredibly sweet boy who wants nothing more than to find a very patient furever family who will love me unconditionally, NEVER give up on me, and who understands I simply need extra time to build my confidence. I have an enormous heart that is brimming with love for someone special; I have a feeling that someone is YOU! If you’ll welcome me into your world and commit to helping me succeed, I promise I will love you bigger than life and we’ll make amazing memories together! Love, Gus
