Hello, my name is Dusk! I’m a beautiful, calm, and maternal, 7ish-years-old, 30-pound Shiba who loves pets, baby talk, playing with toys and chewing on things. That said, I may need some supervision to ensure I’m chewing on Dusk-friendly, parent-approved toys! I especially love greenies, duck and chicken feet, and pig ears. Hee, hee!! I also enjoy leashed walks each day with my foster brother. I like to chase squirrels and say 'hi' to other doggies. When I am home, I like to lounge out and relax with my thoughts. During the day, I mostly like to lounge in my bed or on the floor and watch the goings on around me! I like to make my own nest with pillows and catch some Vitamin D. My foster family has given me the confidence to snuggle on the couch, but only with a proper invitation. At night, I often cuddle with my foster mom when she plops me on her lap.

I prefer quieter environments and small crowds, but I am no stranger to chaos. My foster family's son is very loud and rambunctious. I enjoy witnessing the action, but do not partake. Sometimes I even check on him to make sure he is alright when he is having a tantrum. I don’t have experience with cats but I’m good with other calm kids and other dogs. I adore all humans, and love when my foster family has company over because that means more pets! I’d love to have a confident canine companion to show me the ropes in my new home, but that’s not necessary if I have a family that is home more than gone. I don’t know any commands, and I can’t wear my harness. I used to have some accidents in the house, but that is pretty much over. I ask for patience and training from my new family as I transition to their home.

I am put in the crate at night and it’s tolerable because there are lots of pillows, toys, and blankets in there with me to keep me comfortable and help me feel safe. I have been through a lot in my life and sometimes it’s the little things like cozy pillows and blankets that make life good! 

I am an incredibly sweet girl who has never shown any aggression despite hardships I’ve endured, and I accept the bare minimum from people because that’s all I’ve known. However, I’ve decided that cuddles, belly rubs, sweet baby talk and true love is what life is really all about! So, thanks to my foster family and the other amazing people I’ve met, my biggest dream is to find a patient and committed furever family that will not only love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me. I have had my glow up and am ready to share my love with a wonderful family! I simply want and deserve to fit in, be the princess I was always destined to be, and to be part of a loving family that will spoil me for the rest of my life! I promise, if YOU welcome me into your world, I will show you a love you never thought was possible! Love, Dusk

IMPORTANT: IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR an MSIR DOG, ALL APPLICANTS MUST:

• Be willing to travel with all family members to the foster home to meet/adopt the dog(s).

• Send an email to adoptions@shibarescue.org with 1) Proof of current vet records for all pets in the home, including preventatives, and 2) A brief explanation telling MSIR why you would be a great fit for the dog.

• Submit a completed application.

*If all of these steps aren’t completed, you may not hear back about moving forward.*

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
