_____________________________________________________________________________

Hello, my name is Dusk! I’m a beautiful, calm, and maternal, 7ish-years-old, 30-pound Shiba who loves pets, baby talk, playing with toys and chewing on things. That said, I may need some supervision to ensure I’m chewing on Dusk-friendly, parent-approved toys! Hee, hee!! I also enjoy slow leashed walks each day, but I am a low-energy gal who prefers to simply hang out and relax with my thoughts. My foster family would love it if I’d snuggle on the couch, but my lack of confidence hasn’t gotten me up there yet so for now, I lounge in my bed or on the floor and watch the goings on around me!

I don’t like loud noises or large crowds, and I don’t have experience with cats but I’m good with kids and other dogs. I need a confident canine companion to show me the ropes in my new home. I don’t know any commands, I can’t wear my harness, and I still have 1-2 accidents per day on my potty pads, so my new family will need to be very patient and committed to my training.

I am put in the crate at night and it’s tolerable because she puts lots of pillows, toys, and blankets in there with me to keep me comfortable and help me feel safe. I have been through a lot in my life and sometimes it’s the little things like cozy pillows and blankets that make life good!

I am an incredibly sweet girl who has never shown any aggression despite hardships I’ve endured, and I accept the bare minimum from people because that’s all I’ve known. However, I’m slowly learning that cuddles, belly rubs, sweet baby talk and true love is what life is really all about! So, thanks to my foster family and the other amazing people I’ve met, my biggest dream is to find a patient and committed furever family that will not only love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me, but who will help me become the princess I am destined to be. I simply want and deserve to fit in…to be part of a loving family that will spoil me for the rest of my life! I promise, if YOU welcome me into your world, I will show you a love you never thought was possible! Love, Dusk

Currently is being fostered near St. Louis, MO

IMPORTANT: If you are interested in Dusk, please follow the instructions above, starting with emailing her personal secretary at adoptions@shibarescue.org with any applicable vet records for you current pets, and let us know why you think your family would be a perfect home. We are an all-volunteer rescue, so it may take time to receive a response. Please limit to one email per family - we thank you in advance for your patience!

For general adoption questions, please check the website here: shibarescue.org/adoption-process

AN APPLICATION AND HOME VISIT MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.

Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about.  Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you.  You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process.  The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
