Hello, my name is Blaze! In addition to being incredibly handsome, I’m a playful, energetic and loyal 2-year-old 28-pound Shiba. I like to think of myself as an easy-going little dude. I mean, it only took me 2 days to come around and start feeling like part of my foster family and it only took the doctor three attempts before I accepted a treat from her…not too shabby for Blaze I must say! Hee, hee!
I am crate and potty trained. I wouldn’t mind being an only pet since that means I’d get all the love and attention, but I also do well with other dogs. As for cats…well, I had a small encounter with a meowy thing that bopped me on the nose, so I’m not sure what to think of them. Needless to say, whenever I go outside, I am always on the look-out for that little bugger. Hee, hee!! I’m good with children too, although my play may be a bit rough for little ones, so older kids are a better fit for me.
For the most part I’m a quiet boy, but I like to use my voice when I’m playing or someone passes by the door, so I don’t know if shared walls should be in my future. Thankfully, I get the run of the house when my family’s home but when they’re away, I get to hang out in the hallway which isn’t all that bad really…I just relax with my thoughts and dream about all the fun I’ll have once they return. For example, getting tons of pets and scratches (although I’m not a big snuggler), going on leashed walks, frolicking in a fenced yard (if there is one), playing with all my toys and getting tons of affection!! One of my favorite things is watching foster mom put all my toys into my bin so I can take them out again and strew them about the house. The rest of the time I enjoy playing with my foster sib Dash and stealing his food and toys.…GOOD TIMES!!!
I’m an incredibly sweet boy who adapts well to new surroundings. All I need now is a Shiba-savvy furever family who will love me unconditionally, NEVER give up on me, and who will do lots of things with me like training classes and much, more. If you’ll be my new family, I promise I will love you more than life and will fill a hole in your heart you probably never knew was there. Love, Blaze
Currently is being fostered near Chicago, IL
IMPORTANT: If you are interested in Blaze, please follow the instructions above, starting with emailing his personal secretary at adoptions@shibarescue.org with any applicable vet records for you current pets, and let us know why you think your family would be a perfect home. We are an all-volunteer rescue, so it may take time to receive a response. Please limit to one email per family - we thank you in advance for your patience!
For general adoption questions, please check the website here: shibarescue.org/adoption-process
AN APPLICATION AND HOME VISIT MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.
Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about. Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you. You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process. The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.
NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area. In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
