_____________________________________________________________________________

My name is Snowcone and I am 2-years-old. I weigh about 30 pounds.

I am an introvert dog looking for my very own introvert person to call my human. It takes me many meetings to warm up to new people and places. Sometimes the outside world can still be super scary and I don’t want to walk too far. But other days my brave side comes out and I can walk many blocks nicely with a loose leash! Having an owner who is patient and committed to keeping me on anti-anxiety meds and training is very important!

I don’t need another dog in the house but do well with female dogs. Little kids make me nervous so it’s best if my future family doesn’t have any. I can spend time in a crate but do ok to free-roam.

I’m chill inside the house. I don’t bark and don’t mess with anything. I do love to cuddle with my trusted foster humans. They’ve earned my trust with consistent praise, sweet talk, and giving me my space when I need it. I know that there are more nice people out there just like them and I can’t wait to meet my forever family!

Currently being fostered near Grayslake, IL

IMPORTANT: If you are interested in Snowcone, please email his personal secretary, Ali, at Ali@shibarescue.org and let us know why you think your family would be a perfect home. We are an all-volunteer rescue, so it may take time to receive a response. Please limit to one email per family - we thank you in advance for your patience! If you’d like to speed up the process, please fill out and submit an application. To speed things up even more, send Ali your pet’s most recent vet records.

AN APPLICATION AND HOME VISIT MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.

Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about.  Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you.  You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process.  The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
