Hello. My name is Sugar and yes, I am just as sweet as it. I’m 6 years old and weigh 35 lbs.

I somehow landed in the kindest foster home. The people here are so nice and patient with me and I have sweet doggie siblings that I’ve bonded with. We love to sunbathe in the yard together in between our time spent running around and hunting mice.

I’m a healthy girl who loves to eat! No issues with pickiness here. I need a fenced yard to spend time in as I am still learning how to walk on a leash. I love to be outside with my family and adore the stroller rides that foster mom takes me on. I walk a little first and then she picks me up and puts me in the stroller for the rest of the way. I prefer women over men. My foster mom helps me feel included by picking me up and letting me sleep on her comfy bed at night. I don’t really like being in a crate and do fine when I’m allowed to free roam the house.

I can’t wait to meet my forever family. I will need to be with people who are patient, gentle, and kind.

  • Currently is being fostered near Grand Rapids, MI

IMPORTANT: If you are interested in Sugar, please follow the instructions above, starting with emailing her personal secretary at adoptions@shibarescue.org with any applicable vet records for you current pets, and let us know why you think your family would be a perfect home. We are an all-volunteer rescue, so it may take time to receive a response. Please limit to one email per family - we thank you in advance for your patience!

For general adoption questions, please check the website here: shibarescue.org/adoption-process

AN APPLICATION AND HOME VISIT MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.

Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about.  Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you.  You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process.  The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
