Our Current Emergency

Foster Poca, today, at the Emergency Room.

Poca’s Care Fund

Last night, Joahnna made a trip to the emergency veterinarian with foster Poca.

Today, she remains in the hospital for monitoring as we try to determine the severity of her condition. You see, Poca has been through a LOT since December 8th.

Your worst nightmare…

Poca was happily on a walk in December when she slipped her collar and was struck by a car in Chicago. She was rushed to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Lincoln Park for life-saving treatment. MSIR was contacted when they realized she had a very good chance for recovery, but at an expense beyond what her family was able to provide. VEG and Poca’s family both reached out and asked MSIR to step in. Poca was surrendered to MSIR for care.

With the help of VEG’s veterinarians and Veterinary Orthopedic Center of Highland Indiana, we were able to get Poca in for immediate surgery to repair her pelvis.

Poca is a little fighter - classic shiba filled with all the “personality” we know and love with this breed.

Next Steps

Poca’s current diagnosis is pancreatitis and HGE. This is an evolving situation today as we work with VEG to monitor her and provide her care.

Once we get past her current emergency, her care involves physical therapy to help her build strength and regain control of her hind legs. Tami (mom to Karma and Raiden) and owner of My Pet’s PT has evaluated Poca and has a plan for her recovery.

We need help

Even with the generous discounts we have received from providers, Poca’s medical care has been extremely expensive for our rescue. It’s not too late to make a tax-deductible donation to MSIR to help Poca’s care.

Thank you, Transporters!

This year, 103 of you drove over 6,200 miles to transport 26 dogs to their foster homes.

We thank every single one of you for every mile you have driven, every bit of dog fur (and other stuff) deposited in your car - the fosters swear, it wasn’t personal that they made that smell happen…

We appreciate you!

Don’t forget to keep track of the miles you drive for MSIR transports. You can write off $.14/mile on your taxes!

We are over the moon about our most recent adoptions! Congratulations to Wally, Hinta, Archie, and Rudy (formerly foster Snowflake)!

Until We Meet Again

We sadly share the passing of these beloved shibas from our family.

Scooby, Scooter, Mugli - even if we had forever with you, it would be too short.
