Meet Max!

Max is a happy, energetic 6 year old looking for someone to love. A lot. Max will be your new shadow, ready to join you on the sofa and binge watch your favorite show. And if that sofa happens to be by your front window, he will be sure to protect you by alerting any nearby humans to his existence.

He is also quite the outdoors guy! Max enjoys patrolling the yard for squirrels and birds. He's a fast runner and can jump quite high. Max is great on a leash, but could use a little extra help in the training department as to when to do business and what good manners are. Max does well with other dogs, but isn't too interested in playing with them. He'll do some short games of chase, but then settle back into a comfortable pose to watch.

Max is very loyal and quite protective of his humans. He isn't fond of strangers coming into his area and will loudly share his disappointment at their existence for several minutes. Max is also not fond of sharing attention and will growl at other dogs if they approach a human while he is getting pets.

Max doesn't like riding in a car very much - if he had his way, he'd ride on top of the car! He loves climbing things and is pretty sure the top of the dining room table is a great spot to hang. He's also quite a fan of the backs of sofas and tops of chairs.

Max does have a grade 2 luxating patella which doesn't stop him from moving. Occasionally, you'll see him do a little kick with his back leg when it's uncomfortable. Are you looking for a fun loving guy who will adore you unconditionally? Come meet Max and make him part of your family! If you want to learn more about this sweet guy, email

Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about.  Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you.  You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process.  The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
