Marshmallow is fostered in Omaha, Nebraska.

Are you looking for a best friend? Well, here she is! Marshmallow, also know by her nickname of "Babs" is your girl. This sweet, spunky senior is ready to have some fun. We don't know a lot about this little sweetheart as she was picked up a stray. She was in very poor condition when found by animal control. She was missing most of her fur, she had severe dental issues, and from her body condition it was clear she had been used as a breeder for many years. When MSIR was contacted about her, we knew she needed our help. After spay and dental surgery she made her way to a temporary foster home to rest up before her big journey to Omaha, NE where she would stay in foster care to address her health issues.

Now, just a few weeks later she is a different dog. The fur is growing back in and the skin infections have cleared up. Her bloodwork looks great and her dental issues have been corrected. At this time we are not suspecting any allergy issues as her skin seems fine and she is no longer itchy and uncomfortable. She is able to eat a normal diet with no concerns. Babs is not on any medication other than supplements. We did x-rays as she was limping and had some issues with a rear leg. The x-rays determined there was an old ACL injury and arthritis had set in. Babs takes Cosequin which is glucosamine supplement and a fish oil supplement to help with her arthritis. She is able to get around fine and can do stairs, but would prefer a home with minimal stairs.

Babs is completely housebroken and not at all destructive. She is allowed free roam of her foster home when Mom is at work and has had no issues. She is currently sharing her foster home with 3 male Shibas and does great with them. She has also spent some time with larger dogs and a puppy with no problems. Babs is very dog friendly and we think she would be ok with cats as well. She loves to meet new people and gets very excited about that. Babs will reward you with a happy dog dance if you give her treats or attention. She loves to follow foster Mom around the house and keep her company. Babs really enjoys being part of a family. She is content to nap in her dog bed near her people or sun herself on the deck if you are outside. She does walk well on leash and enjoys short walks with her companions. Due to her arthritis she is not a long distance walker but still enjoys her time out and about. She adores car rides and is the perfect angel sitting nicely in her seat.

Babs will make a wonderful companion for someone who can give her all the love and attention she deserves. She has a huge personality that foster Mom absolutely loves! If you want to know more about this golden girl email foster@shibarescue.org.

AN APPLICATION AND HOME VISIT MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.

Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about.  Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you.  You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process.  The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
