Sox is a Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue dog fostered in Ankeny, Iowa.

This gorgeous senior girl is our sweet Sox.  This sassy shiba is a sprite girl and has no known health issues, which is amazing for a 12 year old!  She is an owner surrender to a shelter as she wasn’t getting along with the new dog in the house.  Sox happily adapted to her new routine in her foster home and makes adorable happy noises when her foster mom returns from work.

Sox is amazing on a leash and loves to regularly take long, leisurely walks around the neighborhood and then curl up in her oversize bed upon returning.  Sox is happy to “chill out” and will curl up on the foot of your bed at night!  She will follow you from room to room; she always wants to know where her human is and what they’re doing.  You never know when they might have treats!

Sox is allowed free reign to roam when her foster mom is at work as she does not enjoy being kennelled.  She will whine and cry when confined, but she has had absolutely no problems with knowing what she should and shouldn’t do when allowed to roam free in her foster home.  At night, if not sleeping on her human’s bed, she will actually go into her crate to sleep, but only if the door remains open is she content there.  We are currently making her crate a happy place for her to be so there is hope for crate training success soon!

Sox does need a home where she is the only pet; she is territorial inside the home and does not get along with other dogs and likely will not accept cats inside her home either.  Amazingly, Sox is great with other dogs outside of the house.  She has been to her foster mom’s workplace and taken walks around the park and has had no issues with dogs in those spaces.  Sox would love a yard to run around in but that isn’t necessary; she is content with her current living arrangements in a 2nd floor apartment with three regular walks a day.

If you’re interested in being Sox’s forever home, please contact her foster mom, Janet, at Sox can’t wait to meet you!

Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about.  Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you.  You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process.  The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
