Zoe is a young, energetic female shiba inu. She was transferred to MSIR from a shelter. After taking Zoe to the vet, we discovered she needed patella and cruciate ligament surgery on both back legs. Zoe has recovered well from her surgeries and is now known as the bionic dog.

Zoe is potty trained and crate trained. She likes her crate and is used to eating and sleeping in it. She is also known for stealing treasure such as socks and hats and hoarding them in her crate. Eventually, any toy left out will make it's way into the back of her crate. She will run into her crate for treats and food. She's content to be crated at night and when needed during the day.

Zoe gets along well with our three male shibas. But, she is less tolerant of female foster dogs. She is fed in her crate because she can be territorial of food and other high value treats. She enjoys playing with her foster sibling Charlie. She will leap on couches and chew on anything that is within her reach. She likes to play with any type of toy and anything she decides is a toy. LOL. While she is usually pretty good left out in the home, she still needs to be supervised when loose. She has taken a few bites out of library books and torn a scarf. She needs to be in a tidy home where she isn't confused by items that are within her reach.

Zoe is very affectionate and likes to be petted and sit on the couch with her people. She can be a bit wild and jump on the furniture while playing but is more cautious in new places and when she meets new people. Zoe is a very sweet dog.

Zoe does better in a home in the suburbs than in the inner city. She was fostered downtown for a short time. She would bark at times and was nervous of the inner city busyness and sounds. Zoe does best wearing a securely fitted harness. She has a bit of an underbite and can easily chew through collars. Zoe's new family will need to take every precaution to ensure she does not run out the front door or slip off a leash. Zoe does well in our fenced in back yard and has not shown any attempts at escaping. Zoe's ideal family will be committed to short daily walks and have a fenced in yard.

Zoe would do best in a home with another male dog or as an only dog. She has recovered from patella and cruciate ligament surgery and there is always the possibility that the ligaments may loosen up in the future if she injures herself. Therefore, Zoe should not engage in activities that are too intensive -- such as play at dog parks, agility, jogging or extremely long walks. The perfect home for Zoe will go on three 10-20 minute walks a day and have short periods of playtime in the backyard. It is a requirement that if you are interested in Zoe you have a veterinarian that is experienced with luxating patellas or continue to take her to Crest Animal Hospital for her vet care.

The adoption fee for Zoe is $300. All potential adopters must have an application and home visit on file. Local homes will be given preference.

NOTE: DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEASHED WHENEVER THEY ARE OUTSIDE OF A SECURELY FENCED AREA. IN ADDITION, MANY SHIBAS ARE DOOR BOLTERS AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN AROUND DOORS AND OTHER ESCAPE POINTS.
  • Upon completion of each positive motivation-based obedience class, MSIR will rebate the new adopters $25.
  • And, upon earning a Good Canine Citizen certificate, MSIR will rebate another $25!

Any one interested in adopting Zoe must first complete an adoption application and indicate, in the comments section, their interest in Rue.
The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site. Once the adoption application is received,  Kathy will contact you.
