Ruby is a 5 year old; 17lbs spayed red female looking for her furever home! Ruby came to us from a commercial breeder. Ruby is a sweet and spunky little girl who gets along well with dogs and cats. She loves to romp and play with other animals. She would do very well with a fun loving, well socialized dog brother or sister as her companion.

Ruby had a hard time trusting us at first, due to her commercial breeder past, but when she realized we just wanted to feed her and love her, she warmed up very quickly. While she is not the kind of dog who will snuggle up with you on the couch, she does love being pet and fawned over. She is very independent and enjoys her own space and the occasional play time with her human handlers.

She is not very vocal, but will alert you to a knock on the door. She is potty trained, but has had a couple of accidents before. Keeping Ruby on a feeding/potty schedule is the best way to prevent this. Ruby is very bold and brave. She will walk up to strangers and sniff and did very well at the dog park. She is great when we leave for the day. We can trust Ruby to be out of her kennel unattended in our house.

Ruby is quickly warming up to more affectionate interactions with people, and will let you pet her head, body and touch her paws with no quam. She was a perfect angel when we clipped her nails. She does not like being picked up and has the potential to snap if trying to do so. Due to this, I recommend Ruby goes to a family with no small children. We are teaching her basic commands and leash training, but I believe obedience classes would be a benefit with her adoptive family, as it would create a strong bond with her and her new owners.

Ruby is currently looking for a second chance with an understanding family to call her own. She is a sweet heart who is just now learning what life is like in a family atmosphere. She is very curious about life outside of a cage and loves learning something new every day. Ruby loves attention, loves play time and will greet you at the door every day with a kiss on your hand. She is just a happy little girl who will melt your heart completely.

The adoption fee for Ruby is $250  Please refer to the MSIR website for more information on the application and adoption process.

NOTE: DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEASHED WHENEVER THEY ARE OUTSIDE OF A SECURELY FENCED AREA. IN ADDITION, MANY SHIBAS ARE DOOR BOLTERS AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN AROUND DOORS AND OTHER ESCAPE POINTS.
  • Upon completion of each positive motivation-based obedience class, MSIR will rebate the new adopters $25.
  • And, upon earning a Good Canine Citizen certificate, MSIR will rebate another $25!
