Kuma is a three year old Shiba who loves being with people. She is very sweet, and eager for attention. She hasn’t shown dominant tendencies, and seems to get along well with other dogs. She is a little timid at first, but seems to warm up quickly to people.

Kuma’s previous owners surrendered her to MSIR due to the owner’s health problems making it difficult for her to care for Kuma. Kuma seems to adapt well to new situations, and has a pleasant disposition.

Kuma is always happy to greet people when they get home, and always has a toy in her mouth when she comes to greet you at the door. She would do well as an only dog, or in a home with other dogs. She hasn’t shown any aggression or snarling, but she does occasionally bark at strange times. She will stop if she is told.

Kuma responds to basic commands (“sit”, “lay down”). She can walk on a leash without too much pulling, but is still working on good leash behavior. She is not crate trained, but has not exhibited any unruly behaviors or separation anxiety when left alone. She does not chew or destroy things, and is house-trained.

Kuma’s previous vet said that she has mild bilateral patellas. At this time, the condition does not seem to bother her and does not require surgery but should be monitored. She has not displayed any difficulty walking or running. She is in good health.

Overall, Kuma is a wonderfully sweet and easy-going Shiba, and would make the right family very happy!

The adoption fee for Kuma is $300. All potential adopters must have an application and home visit on file.
NOTE: DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEASHED WHENEVER THEY ARE OUTSIDE OF A SECURELY FENCED AREA. IN ADDITION, MANY SHIBAS ARE DOOR BOLTERS AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN AROUND DOORS AND OTHER ESCAPE POINTS.
  • Upon completion of each positive motivation-based obedience class, MSIR will rebate the new adopters $25.
  • And, upon earning a Good Canine Citizen certificate, MSIR will rebate another $25!

Any one interested in adopting Kuma must first complete an adoption application and indicate, in the comments section, their interest in Kuma.
The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site. Once the adoption application is received,  Mandy will contact you.
