Diego is an amazing 5 year old, 27lbs neutered male cream that was rescued from a shelter in Omaha. He is UTD on shots and is micro-chipped. Diego is a people pleaser and it will only take moments for him to melt your heart. His favorite pastime is sleeping on your lap while you watch tv or playing with his squeaky toy. He is charming and very smart, is always up for an adventure and loves to play an afternoon game of fetch. We have taken him on a couple of fishing trips and he does great in the car and at the lake.

When he first came to our household, he showed signs of a knee issue. He also had an infected anal gland that caused him lots of pain and discomfort. We believed this caused some socialization and dominance problems Diego had with our dogs when he first came to our home. Since then, his medical issues have been addressed and resolved, and he is socializing and playing nice with our dogs.

Diego has so much love to give and he is ready to find his furever home! Currently he is living with 3 other shibas and 2 cats. He has been possessive around his food but can be easily corrected and will listen to a stern “no”. Diego will ignore the cats but has been caught on occasion trying to chase. I believe that a no cat home would be best for Diego. Diego loves playing with water. Diego does show some compulsive behavior when he gets around a hose or a bathtub. We request he always be monitored when around water.

He has a very independent spirit (he is definitely a shiba!). We have been working with him on basic training and he is doing fantastic. He loves exploring outside in the yard and loves going to the dog park to hang out with all the people. Diego is good on a leash, he is house trained and has never had an accident inside, knows basic commands (sit, stay, lay down, shake, kennel and outside).

Diego is an all around great dog. He would do best in a mellow household where he can spend his days sleeping and playing fetch. He will make an exceptional companion for someone looking to have a furever friend!

The adoption fee for Diego is $250  Please refer to the MSIR website for more information on the application and adoption process.

NOTE: DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS SHOULD ALWAYS BE LEASHED WHENEVER THEY ARE OUTSIDE OF A SECURELY FENCED AREA. IN ADDITION, MANY SHIBAS ARE DOOR BOLTERS AND CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN AROUND DOORS AND OTHER ESCAPE POINTS.
  • Upon completion of each positive motivation-based obedience class, MSIR will rebate the new adopters $25.
  • And, upon earning a Good Canine Citizen certificate, MSIR will rebate another $25!
