Meet Charlie! This adorable ten week old puppy was released to MSIR because he was born with angular limb deformity in both back legs.

Charlie has been diagnosed with severe Grade 4 medially luxating patellas in both back legs and angular limb deformity. He was born with the knee caps (otherwise known as patellas) out of place toward the inside of each leg. The ligaments surrounding his knees are not holding the bones or patella in the correct location. Therefore, the tibia and femur have been growing out at an angle. He needs surgery on both legs within the next 4 weeks or he will lose the capability to support weight on his back legs. We have a very small window to correct the situation before the bones have grown out at too much of an angle to fix with surgical correction. As you can see in the video taken at 9 weeks, he is having issues running, walking and supporting his weight on her back legs. Without surgery, he will need to use a cart by the time he is 4-6 months old. Thank you to Dr. Lyle and Crest Animal Hospital in Kansas City, MO for assisting MSIR by providing Charlie's surgeries at a discounted rate.

MSIR needs your help to cover the cost of the surgeries and Charlie's rehabilitation so that he will be able to walk, run and play as he grows older!

MSIR is not accepting applications to adopt Charlie at this time. He is on medical hold until recovery from surgery!
