Dawson is fostered in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dawson is a very happy and super fluffy almost 8 year old shiba. He loves meeting people and will take all the attention you want to give him. He is very generous with the shiba kisses and pretty much lives for a belly rub. He also enjoys being brushed and has been known to fall asleep during a grooming session. Dawson's favorite activities are car rides and walks. He is a perfect gentleman in the car and will sit quietly in the passenger seat to look out the window. He comes running if you ask him about going for a walk and has excellent leash manners. He has a lot of energy and the tail never stops wagging no matter how long you walk.

Dawson is currently being fostered with three male shibas. He gets along very well with them and has no problem sharing space. When it's time to eat he would prefer to be fed in an area by himself as he has shown some food aggression. When meal time is over the bowl should be picked up as he has also shown some interest in resource guarding. Dawson has not been tested with cats, however his foster home would not recommend him living with one. He has shown a very high prey drive when coming into contact with rabbits or other small animals. Dawson will also need a home without small children. His previous owner reported he is afraid of children but has not yet been around them in foster care. Foster mom has noticed he does become nervous around unexpected sound and movement.

Dawson is a very healthy boy up to date on all vet care and monthly preventatives. It was discovered recently through blood work that he has a low thyroid. He has been started on a daily pill for this and will be rechecked in a few weeks. The medication for this condition is very inexpensive costing less than $10 per month. With medication and routine check-ups no complications are expected.

If you would like to know more about Dawson please contact his foster mom at foster@shibarescue.org for more information about this handsome guy.

Any one interested in adopting this dog must first complete an adoption application indicating the name of the dog(s) they are interested in learning more about.  Once the adoption application is received, our adoption coordinator will contact you.  You must respond to this email to set up your home visit and complete the approval process.  The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site.

NOTE: Due to the breed's independent and prey driven nature, Shibas should ALWAYS be leashed whenever they are outside of a securely fenced area.  In addition, many Shibas are door bolters and care should be taken around doors and other escape points.
